My first response to the visual resumes for Michael at re.vu and visualize.me was Why would anyone what to do THAT?? (Sorry Michael…)
But after thinking about it, times HAVE changed. Technology and the Internet have completely changed what work, skill sets, and achievements look like. For digital natives and many (not all) digital immigrants, a visual resume may be a more functional and suitable vehicle for showcasing an individuals work life.
Re.vu did not appeal to me at all so I chose to experiment with visualize me. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to incorporate the information in my LinkedIn profile. Other than drafting the profile content, I really didn’t have to do much typing and that was so nice! One unexpected benefit was that in tweaking my infographic resume, I noticed a few things I can tweak and improve on my LinkedIn profile and even on my traditional hard copy resume.
I think I would be open minded enough to be willing to consider accepting for review, a visual resume but it might well depend on the type of position I was filling.
I don’t know if this type of resume would be a help or hindrance at this point in my professional life. I think it would depend on the type of position I was looking and who I was applying with but I wouldn’t dismiss an infographic out of hand as a potential tool in any job hunting that I might do again one day.
